Pahvant Elementary Trust Lands Plan 2017-18
Academic Goals:
Goal #1: Assure learning and academic achievement for all students with 55% of students at Pahvant Elementary reaching grade level proficiency as measured by the SAGE test in reading, and language arts. Also that 80% of the students, regardless of current performance levels will achieve a minimum of one year’s academic growth in reading and language arts as measured by SAGE.
Goal #2: Assure learning and academic achievement for all students with 60% of students at Pahvant Elementary reaching grade level proficiency as measured by the SAGE test in math. Also that 80% of the students, regardless of current performance levels will achieve a minimum of one year’s academic growth in math as measured by SAGE scores.
Goal #3: Assure learning and academic achievement for students with 55% of students in 4th and 5th grades at Pahvant Elementary reaching grade level proficiency as measured by the SAGE test in Science. Also that 80% of the students, regardless of current performance levels will achieve a minimum of one year’s academic growth in Science as measured by SAGE.
To reach these goals, we will provide:
- Differentiated instruction using systems for prevention, intervention and accelerated learning to address individual student learning styles and needs including Flexible Grouping.
- Effective classroom practices where basic, fundamental skills are taught.
- Opportunities for teachers to improve their practice through professional development offerings and the opportunity to work in collaborative teams to improve instruction.
- A focus on effective utilization of instructional time with fewer interruptions in the school day.
- A research based curriculum and delivery framework.
- Researched based instructional strategies to provide early intervention for students who fail to meet academic goals.
- Purchase engaging materials to help support students learning in reading, math, and Science instruction.
- Student home communicators will be purchased for students to utilize in transporting student learning materials and to improve home communication .
- Flexible groups for all students
- Support to provide and sustain a highly engaging take-home library for 3rd grade
- Student support nights will be offered to provide students additional support in math and or reading concepts being taught, parents will be invited to support their children.
- Provide music through BTS Arts Program including learning through music (Provide arts instruction through BTS Arts Program and support for early morning chior)
Trust Lands funding will support the academic goals in the following ways:
1. Provide support for struggling learners.
Funds will provide salaries and benefits for personnel working with struggling learners in the literacy and math intervention programs. This program provides services for students that are not meeting grade level proficiency or growth goals. Staff members working with struggling students use of a variety of instructional techniques, utilizing small group, individual instruction and computer assisted instruction. Services are provided during the school day.
2. Assist all students in meeting reading, math, and science goals.
Trust lands funds will be leveraged to help all students achieve math goals. Support for the reading and math program will be provided by purchasing software programs, and other instructional materials as needed to supplement instruction in the classroom and for use at home. Student support nights will be offered to provide students additional support in math and or reading concepts being taught, parents will be invited to support their children. A school counselor will be hired to provide support as well. (Behavioral Component) As learning is socially constructed and students need additional supports to learn how to work in cooperative learning settings, we have hired a part time counselor to work with students in this area.
3. Offer opportunities for teachers and administrators to participate in professional development offerings and to work in collaborative teams to improve instruction.
Funds will be utilized to provide substitutes to allow teachers to plan collaboratively during the regular school day. Monies will also be used to pay for professional development seminars and travel expenses, and school level professional development opportunities.
4. Purchase software/hardware and technology related equipment for classrooms.
Funds will be utilized to upgrade computer equipment and software to enhance instruction in the classroom. This will include other technology hardware such as iPad, iPods, Projectors, Document Cameras, Chromebooks, Smartboards etc.
5. Support the BTS Arts Program up to $5000 to provide the 10% PES is responsible for in the salary portion of the BTS Grant. These funds will be taken from the technology funds if the additional grant isn’t awarded for the 2017-18 year.
6. Support students in learning science related content.
Science materials will be purchased as related to each grade level’s curriculum. A list of these items will be reported in the final report. Teachers will get approval. Science academic field experiences will be provided including travel and associated admission expenses. Each field experience will be aligned to student learning specific to grade level core curriculum.
Measuring Progress Towards Goals:
The following assessments will be used to monitor and assess student achievement throughout the school year:
Reading
- Screening –“ Wonders” reading assessments, DIBELS
- Diagnostic –DIBELS
- Progress Monitoring – “Wonders” reading assessments, DIBELS
- Outcome –SAGE, DIBELS
Math
- Screening – Pearson Math Inventory, SAGE
- Diagnostic SAGE Formative, Pearson
- Progress Monitoring – Pearson Unit Assessments.
- Outcome –SAGE
Science
- Progress Monitoring- SAGE Benchmarks
- Outcome- SAGE End Of Level Assessments
The target to be achieved is:
55% of students at Pahvant Elementary will reach grade level proficiency as measured by the SAGE test in reading, language arts, Science, and 65% in math.
- 80% students regardless of current performance levels will achieve a minimum of one year’s academic growth in reading, math and language arts as measured by SAGE EOL Assessments.

How does this relate to the school improvement/strategic plan?
Key academic goals outlined in the Pahvant Elementary School Improvement Plan are to ensure that all students read proficiently at grade level, possess grade level mathematics skills and acquire effective writing competencies. Trust Lands funding will be utilized to support reading, math and writing instruction at all levels throughout the school.

The Following is a summary of how the Trust Lands Funds were utilized at Pahvant Elementary during the 2016-17 School year.
Instructional Assistants were hired to support our flex group program at Pahvant Elementary. Funds also supported our early morning chior for 4th and 5th grades.
Money was used to purchase projectors to continue the efforts to replace the original projectors throughout our classrooms.
Money was also used for professional development. Teachers participated in workshops to continue their education and to stay current with best practices. Substitute teachers were hired to allow for teacher collaboration as well.
Software programs were purchased to enhance the learning experience through multiple learning styles and abilities. A typing program was purchased for all students to utilize. Technology hardware was purchased in connection with state initiatives and has been implemented with great success.
Student/ parent communicator folders were purchased for each student to increase home and school communication.
Funds were also utilized to pay a portion of our BTS Arts Specialist in conjunction with district funds.
Chromebooks were purchased in an effort to increase student learning time as it relates to state, district, and school initiatives
Earbuds were purchased to support our students in hearing and utilizing online programs. Voice amplification microphones were purchased to replace two of the original microphones.
