The meeting began by answering a concern regarding the arts: JT- Find people in community to volunteer in the arts program for financial savings. Discussion then followed about pros and cons of this idea. Compared and contrasted with the book club. JB- said that she would be willing to do a cooking class after school. Mr. Johnson brought up issues that we would face in doing these types of after school activities, bussing being an example. He also used the BTS program as an example to demonstrate the difficulty of doing a program for the entire school. He also brought up the difficulty of parents coming in due to their schedules.
Review of Minutes/Proposal: All items in the proposal were discussed. Discussion and questions are listed below:
Discussion of book giveaway.
Discussion of classroom supplies and donations from parents.
Discussion of how the new signing process works with signatures and the duration of council members.
CJ- Asked if anyone had concerns about the plan. Unanimously, everyone agreed to the plan.

- Trust Lands Budget—develop next year’s
- All amounts are estimates, based on last year’s allocation and expenses
- Allotment estimate-$60,000
- Salaries & Benefits-$41,000 to pay Pahvant’s portion of the art teacher & counselor, 3 Instructional Assistants, substitutes for school-wide PLC meetings 7 people for 6 days, after school Choir program
- Professional Development-$5,000 for workshop fees and transportation
- Travel/Administration/Printing-$2,500 busing to field experiences
- General Supplies-$1,100 school/home communicators and color printer cartridges (a survey will be completed by teachers to determine how many communicator folders are needed.)
- Library Books/Periodicals/Audiovisual-$2,500 home reading books, reward books, and library needs
- Software-$900 Typing Pal and other apps
- Technology-$7,020
- Carry Over Estimate-$4,500
- Trust Lands Plan—develop next year’s
- Reading and Math goals the same as last year—Since this is the last year to do SAGE test, we will not change the proficiency percentage. The State of Utah owns the questions SAGE used, so the next platform is going to use some of the questions.
- Added a Science goal last year which would fund science equipment and field experiences
- Committee Members asked if there is anything on the Plan they want or do not want
- Some members do not see the value of buying School/Home Communication folders. Teachers will be asked if they want to use them or not, and folders purchased only for those who want them.
- Keep Flex groups-they are beneficial to all
- BTS Arts grant-kids love the art program. Discussion- possibility of an art teacher for the whole year
- Would cost $55,000-$60,000/year
- High school students, such as Sterling Scholars
- “Meet the Masters” online art program, would require someone to oversee the program
- Science Field Experiences Discussed U of U, Free grants to Museum of Natural History, possible suggestions to look into:go to Bryce Canyon, Cedar City Art Museum (free, part of SUU), Performing Arts, Iron Mission. Reminder that Field Experiences must be tied to a Standard
- Technology Are there more needs? We are fairly set because of district grants; however, need to replace some items-- $1,800 3 Eiki’s yearly, $750 3-4 microphones yearly, $600-700 2-3 document cameras yearly, $1,300 1 more Promethian Board, $2,000-2,100 digital Paired Texts for Reading Flex groups
- Measuring Progress towards goals-new program the school purchased, Illuminate, and will change SAGE to the new test when we find out what it will be
- Plan for Expenditures of Increased Distribution-statement of how any additional funds will be spent and to cover any unforeseen needs
- Title I Audit this year
- Each committee member individually asked if they had any questions or concerns about the Trust Lands Plan or Budget just discussed. All committee members agreed with what had been done.

- 2016/17 funding began at $35,775, estimated increase to $36,122, actual $60,048
- Have more for Science equipment--$475 for Erosion, Solar System, and Magnetism kits
- Technology-to replace Chrome Books and carts, as needed
- Sound system that Trust Lands paid for a couple of years ago is working well. Needed to replace 6 microphones-$225
- Want to increase response rates and engagement in the

- Mrs. Dunne, described her role as school counselor, emphasizing that she is not in a disciplinary role, but as a coach teaching students how to deal with life, and there to talk to if needed.
4. Technology
V. Trust Lands Plan and Budget changes agreed on at this meeting will be made and emailed to each member of the Community Council. Each member will need to come to the school to sign the final Trust Lands Plan and Budget; Mrs. White will have the paper that needs to be signed. Mr. Johnson will then submit the Plan and Budget to the State for approval. No further Community Council meeting will be necessary this year. Thank you to each Council member for their service on this important committee for our school.

- School Allotment increased approximately 30%, to an estimated $62,080 for 2017-2018
- Science
- Added Science goal to next year’s plan during our last meeting
- For Science kits and field experiences in each grade level—$3,000
- Will continue to look for volunteer parent support in science areas
- Discussed funding some of the cost of Instructional Assistants— $12,000-$15,000 to continue Reading and Math programs
- Discussed funding each teacher ½ day for Back-to-School Conferencing with students— $3,000. Additional funds will be utilized for teachers to observe one another in a PD format.
- Continued funding of before/after school Choir— $2,500
- School Counselor—$5,000 (shared with Ashman, currently 1 day at Pahvant)

4. Technology
- Proposed—buy Smartboards for some classrooms next year, with more the next year. Goal is a Smartboard in each classroom
- Proposed—buy 3-5 Eiki projectors to replace broken ones
- In process of writing a Grant to the District to pay for a portion of the Smartboards
- Book Club—Media Specialist does this as part of her regular duties
- Book Fair enables library to financially support every need the District does not provide
- Weekly Give Away Books—Proposed $2,000 to buy books to give to students for home reading materials. We can buy ‘slightly bruised’ books, which are normally $10-$15 books, for about $2 per book. These books are actually surplus books with no defects. The students love to get new books! Parents concur.
