Notice to Parents: Right to Review Teacher Qualifications
To: ALL PARENTS
From: Pahvant Elementary School
Date: August, 2016
As a parent of a student at Pahvant Elementary School, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child’s classroom teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers:
If you would like to receive any of this information, please call Chad Johnson at 1-435-896-4403
Communication
- All teachers and administrators have Gmail accounts that follow the same format ([email protected])
- All teachers and administrators can be contacted at the school by calling 1-435-896-4403
- Mr. Johnson sends text messages regarding important dates and reminders of school level activities such as school programs etc. to signup text @pahv to 81010
- Communication with your child’s teacher is essential for success. If you have questions or concerns regarding classroom instruction or interactions please contact the teacher to discuss your concerns prior to addressing them through the office. Most of the time parent concerns are resolved through communication with the teacher. If your concerns are not resolved following discussion with your child’s teacher, please contact the office to meet with the principal.
- Pahvant’s website is weebly.pahvantelementary.org
- Sevier School District’s website is www.seviersd.org
- Pahvant Elementary has SEPs twice yearly, one in the fall and one in the spring.
- Some times it becomes necessary for a parent to get information to a student during the school day. The school will relay messages to students on an emergency basis only. Messages received after 1:30 are not guaranteed to be delivered. Please be respectful of this policy as we have 500+ students and it becomes very difficult to relay all messages received.
Fees
- There are no fees for students at Pahvant Elementary School
- On occasion parents can donate to specific activities or project, but it isn’t a requirement for participation. (i.e. Gooseberry Field Trip) Some of our field trips are contingent on donation and school funds.
- We have a lot of technology and students will need headphones to work with some of our programs on iPads, Chrome Books, and computers. The school will provide each student with a set of ear buds for free. If a student damages or loses his or her ear buds they can purchase a new pair for $2.00 through our office.
School Lunch/ Breakfast
- Pahvant Elementary School doesn’t charge to school lunch accounts. Students need to have a lunch balance or pay at the time they eat each meal. Students will never be turned away at our lunch lines. Every student will have the opportunity to eat a meal each day lunch is served. If a student doesn’t have sufficient funds in his or her meal account they will be served a meal as normal. In this case the student will eat their meal and then call home as a simple reminder that they need to bring lunch money the following day.
- Lunch money can be paid in the office during school hours. Teachers also collect lunch money at the beginning of each day and turn it into the office.
- Online payment can be made through Sevier School District Payschools option. Contact the office at 896-4403 to learn how.
- Students who miss 6 or more unexcused absences will be sent a certified letter as a reminder of the state law regarding compulsory education. We want to do everything we can to ensure your child gets the best education possible while at Pahvant Elementary School. After 10 unexcused absences parents will receive a second letter with notification of meeting to resolve attendance issues and notice of court referral if unexcused absences continue.
- If your child is going to be absent, please call the school @ 896-4403 and let the school secretary know first thing in the morning or prior to the absence.
- School starts at 8:05 and dismisses at 2:45 Monday – Thursday and dismisses at 1:05 on Friday.
- Students who arrive after 8:05 will need to check-in at the office prior to going to class.
- If your child needs to leave the school for any purpose during the school day he or she needs to checkout through the office. Students will not be allowed to leave the school without a parent, guardian, or parent designee whom the parent/guardian has listed on the schools release form.
Hours of Operation
- Teachers are at the school, with some exceptions, from 7:40-4:00 Monday-Thursday and 7:40-1:45 on Friday.
- The office is open the same hours as stated above
- Please don’t send your child to school prior to 7:45 as there isn’t proper supervision.
- When school is out students need to go home. Crossing guards and school safety personal are available until 3:05. At times school staff members may arrange for your child to stay for additional support or programs. During these times it is appropriate for students to stay as specified by the teacher with parent permission. Unfortunately crossing guards and safety personal will not be available after 3:05.
- Office doors will be opened by 7:40 each morning and will be locked by 4:00 each afternoon except for Friday when the doors will be locked by 2:00.
- Outside classroom doors will be opened at 8:05 except in cases of weather that requires students to be indoors. In this case doors will be opened at 7:50.
Class Placements
- We take class placement very seriously. Teachers and administrators work close to place students for optimal learning. We also understand you know your child better than we do. If you have concerns or would like to give us information in relation to placement of your child for the up coming school year please schedule a meeting with the principal prior to April 15th. We do not take request for placements, but will do our best to place your child in an environment where he or she will have a successful experience. Once class placements have been made and delivered to students and parents no changes will be made. All class placement concerns need to be discussed prior to April 15 for the following school year.
Field Trips/ Out of School Travel
- Students must ride the school district’s transportation to all field trips. Parents not riding the bus will not be allowed to transport any student(s) to the fieldtrip sight. If parents wish to take their child from any fieldtrip, they must notify the teacher prior to leaving the fieldtrip sight and sign them out at the location of the fieldtrip. Parents who take their children from the fieldtrip sight are dismissing their child for the school day and parent assume all responsibilities for their child. Parents may not take any other children with them with the exception of prior arrangements with parents and the teacher of the child who is being dismissed. This needs to be done in writing and signed by the parent consenting to their child being dismissed.
Dress Code and Conduct
- Pahvant Elementary follows the Sevier School district policies for dress, grooming, conduct and all other policies. Please see www.seviersd.org for a complete list of policies

- This review of existing data and evaluation determination is conducted in collaboration with the Special Education Learning Coordinator.
- If it is decided that the evaluation should take place, a special education staff member is assigned to oversee/conduct the evaluation. Written Prior Notice (WPN) is provided to the parent of the intent to conduct an evaluation.
- If the referral is not going to result in a comprehensive evaluation, the principal and the assigned special education case manager send the parent a Written Prior Notice of Refusal to take the action of conducting an evaluation
